Sending bulk SMS to parents, staff, or specific groups — announcements, fee reminders, and event notices.

AthenaStar integrates with the Wigal Frog SMS gateway to send messages directly to parents' and staff's phones. SMS must be enabled and configured by the platform before your school can use it.

Enabling SMS

Contact the platform (AthenaStar support) to enable SMS for your school. Once granted, go to Communications → SMS Settings to configure your sender ID and verify the gateway connection.

Composing & Sending

  1. Go to Communications → SMS → Compose.
  2. Choose your recipient group: All Parents, All Staff, a specific class, or a custom phone list.
  3. Type your message (max 160 characters per SMS; longer messages split automatically).
  4. Click Send. A summary shows how many messages were sent and any failures.

Parent Email Newsletters

For longer announcements, use Communications → Email Parents. This sends a formatted HTML email to all parent accounts that have an email address on file — better for term newsletters, report card availability notices, or event invitations.

SMS History

Every sent message is logged under Communications → SMS → History. You can filter by date range, see delivery status, and resend if needed.

Quick Steps

  1. Communications → SMS → Compose to type your message and select the recipient group.
  2. Filter by class, student type, or custom list — or send to all parents at once.
  3. SMS history shows delivery status for every message sent through the system.
